Rule 2: Try Something Different/Options

If you haven’t read from the beginning, Rule 2, as it applies to wine, is Try Something Different. As the Store Manager, I’m responsible for sampling as many new products as I can, and I’m happy to share these tasting notes with you.

Club 44 Rose. There’s still a lot of summer left, so that means plenty of time to enjoy a rose you may have overlooked. Club 44 has a great label, and the wine lives up to that image. It’s a classic dry rose from Provence, with hints of rhubarb, red fruit, and herbs.

Cantina Terre del Barolo 2010 Barolo. This is based on opening one bottle at dinner. The color has a bit of the brick shade to it. The nose is a field of flowers-the aromatics were amazing. On the palate, notes of black fruit, with a hint of mushroom, and a respectable acidic structure, with integrated tannins. The dry, lengthy finish features more of that dark fruit. Grab 2 bottles-enjoy one now, and hold the other for up to 2 years. We enjoyed this alongside a mixed grill and asparagus.

This did score 90 points from Wine Enthusiast, and they recommend drinking after 2020. I’ll disagree, and stand by my assessment.

Our Hopewell store is deceptively large, and our Hamilton store is filled with great selections. When you’re looking for something that fits under the Rule 2 heading, we’re happy to assist you.
